Telegram CEO Pavel Durov was arrested at a French airport, reportedly over inadequate content moderation practices on the platform. French authorities are investigating Telegram’s role in facilitating criminal activity, while Telegram maintains that it fully complies with European Union laws, including the Digital Services Act.
The company insists that its moderation practices align with industry standards and are continually improving. According to CoinDesk, Telegram has defended Durov, saying holding him or the platform responsible for others’ misuse would be unreasonable.

In response to the arrest, Telegram referenced Durov’s previous statements predicting challenges with censorship. Durov noted that all significant social platforms face criticism for the content they host, citing Meta’s long-standing struggles with censorship.
Despite the arrest, support for Durov is growing in the crypto community. Tron’s Justin Sun even pledged $1 million to a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) dedicated to securing Durov’s release if enough community support is gained. Meanwhile, Toncoin (TON) saw a minor increase of 0.5% on the day.
