a16z Crypto Warns About Podcast Invitation Crypto Scammers

According to a16z, crypto scammers use spoof domain names that resemble those of a16z to invite targets into their podcast initiative. The alert comes in response to multiple reports by people who received the scam messages.

Most of them come as invites to their podcast. Communication could be from a supposed guest planner posing as a member of a16z, pitches based on fake research about the target company, or links to booking tools that also masquerade as services like Calendly. Also, impersonation may be done by employees who are not part of the podcast group.

a16z has been keen to say that every genuine podcast invite would come directly from the company or through mutual friends. “If you receive such an email, please click on the link with caution and do not share the information with people you don’t know,” the company warned.
