Key Points:
- The Sui network experienced an outage, halting block production for over 2 hours.
- The issue, attributed to a bug in transaction scheduling logic, has been resolved, and the Sui network is back online.
The Sui network experienced a temporary halt in block production, raising concerns about network stability and drawing comparisons to Solana’s past outages.
Sui Network Experiences Outage, Block Production Halted
On the afternoon of November 21, 2024, the Sui network, a blockchain project built on the Move programming language, experienced an outage. Block production ceased at approximately 4:15 PM Vietnam time, effectively halting network activity.
On-chain data from Sui Explorer indicated that the network had not recorded any new blocks or transactions for over an hour.
Preliminary reports suggest the issue stemmed from validator difficulties, and the Sui team is currently investigating and working to resolve the incident.

Issue Resolved, but Comparisons with Solana Arise
By the time of reporting, the Sui team announced that the issue had been resolved, allowing block production to resume. The root cause was identified as a block-ordering logic error, which disrupted validator operations.
However, the incident revived discussions about Sui being referred to as a “Solana Killer” or “Solana 2.0,” referencing Solana’s past struggles with frequent outages. The term “Solagna” has even been coined by the community to mock Solana’s history of technical issues.
In September 2021, Solana experienced a 16-hour outage that caused significant disruption and losses. The most recent Solana incident occurred on February 6, 2024. Since then, Solana has been operating smoothly without any major technical issues.
In response to Sui’s downtime, its native token (SUI) saw a sharp decline, trading around $3.40 at the time of writing. This drop reflected market reactions as news of the incident spread.
