Trump Inaugural Speech Makes No Mention of New Crypto Policy

Key Points:

  • Trump inaugural speech focused on unity, inflation, immigration, and energy, with no mention of cryptocurrencies.
  • Despite past campaign promises to make the U.S. a “crypto capital” and establish a Bitcoin strategic reserve, Trump’s silence on crypto surprised and divided market analysts.

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, starting his second term back in the White House and marking him as only the second leader in U.S. history to serve non-consecutive terms.

Crypto Pledges Omitted in Trump Inaugural Speech

Trump inaugural speech on Monday dwelled on messages of unity, strength, and fairness to address high inflation, immigration, border security, and energy production. Conspicuously absent in the half-an-hour speech was any mention of cryptocurrencies, which the digital asset community had been waiting for with bated breath.

On the campaign trail, Trump positioned himself as crypto-friendly, touting that he would turn America into a “crypto capital of the world” and create a U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. He said he would not sell the government’s Bitcoin.

Crypto Community Reacts to Trump’s Silence on Digital Assets

Many had their mouths agape over digital assets being excluded in Trump inaugural speech after so much confidence he would lead pro-crypto policies inspired by the appearance at the 2024 Bitcoin Conference in Nashville.

To some analysts, however, it was a calculated silence to avoid unnecessary market volatility. To some players in the crypto space, it was relief enough that it avoided rhetoric that could disrupt investor confidence.

Other than that, Trump has engaged with the crypto space by launching a DeFi platform called World Liberty Financial in September, together with his sons.
