Elon Musk Suggests Presidential Pardon for Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht

Musk said, “Ross will be freed too,” in a user post on X asking Trump to give Ross Ulbricht clemency.

Ulbricht, who was sentenced to life in prison in 2015 for his operation of the Silk Road, has not yet seen a commutation in his case. While his advocates have hoped for President Trump to take action, there has been no update on this matter so far. The scenario remains unclear since Trump hasn’t made an announcement about whether he will take action on this pardon in the following weeks.

During May 2024, at the Libertarian National Convention, Trump promised that on his first day in office, he would commute the sentence of Ulbricht. The news sparked renewed optimism among supporters of the Silk Road founder. To date, Ulbricht has not received his freedom, and nobody knows if Trump will accept this commitment soon.

Ross Ulbricht Fights for Freedom Amid Life Imprisonment

The founder of Silk Road was found guilty of aiding and abetting activities on the platform but not actually causing harm himself. Since being convicted, he has shown repentance for his actions, bettering himself by furthering his education and working toward an appeal of his case.

Currently, Ulbricht’s sentence hangs in a precarious balance, while many continue to wait for Trump’s decision on whether he will go through with what he had actually commuted the sentence.
