Burberry Launches Virtual Handbag On Roblox
Burberry, the British fashion giant, has just launched a virtual handbag in the Roblox game, inspired by the designs that make up the brand’s name.
Roblox community members can now “shop now” and bring stylish handbags to “wear” their avatars. According to statistics, on average 1 in 5 people who are active daily on Roblox will have 1 person updating their profile picture every day.
While expensive physical bags are often worth thousands of dollars, virtual bags are only available for sale for a few dollars and are paid in Robux, the platform’s currency. Each bag will come with an exclusive emoji.
In October 2019, the company launched its first online game B Bounce. In June of this year, Burberry teamed up with Mythical Games to release the second NFT collection “Blankos Block Party”.
This is Burberry’s first handshake with Roblox, a game platform with more than 50 million daily active users. Nike and Gucci have also established their own stores on Roblox.
The bags were created by the hands of 22-year-old digital fashion designer Samuel Jordan. He has successfully sold more than 25 million works on this platform. Jordan said:
“I first started playing Roblox when I was 12. My older brother Zack asked me to do it just to hang out with him. And I grew up homeschooled so I didn’t have many friends socially. Roblox is really where I found community.”
Last month, Meta announced a partnership with Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne to launch a digital fashion store. Other fashion brands are expected to double their investments in technology between now and 2030, a portion of which will be dedicated to advancing the metaverse.
