The watchmaker from the United States claims to be going “bananas” over a collaboration with community members to develop NFT-themed watches that will only be offered to Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) members.

The Web3 initiative will provide Bored Ape and Mutant Ape holders with a world-first set of phygital items for usage in the real and virtual worlds.

The Middlebury, Connecticut-based company will produce 500 timepieces and NFT digital twins for the phygital project, with watches expected to ship in the second quarter of 2023.

Timex’s luxury timepieces will provide long-standing BAYC members with a fully hand-assembled Timex Waterbury Classic model watch for over 30,000 Apes spanning 17 customized qualities for over 30,000 Apes.

Some of the BAYC’s long-term NFT holders, including Josh Ong, CryptoVonDoom, The Miami Ape, LOGIK, BaronVonHustle, and Zeneca, have consulted the ‘Timex Goes Ape’ phygital project.

Long-term Bored Ape community member, Josh Ong, said:

“From customizing the digital collectible and unboxing the physical watch to flexing at Ape Fest, these incredible timepieces will delight Ape holders and keep them guessing at surprises yet to come.”

Companies have previously courted Yuga Labs‘ brands for partnerships and unique merchandise.

The announcement comes amid a drive for global businesses to use Web3 creative content to interact with customers and audiences. Such approaches have resulted in the emergence of metaverse communities and marketing campaigns capable of dramatically increasing shopper involvement.

Nike (originally RTFKT), Atari, Coca-Cola, Warner Brothers, Champion, Este Lauder, Coinbase, Ledger, and many more have previously joined Web3 marketing activities.
