Established in September 2020 by a group of anonymous developers, PancakeSwap gained popularity for its integration with Binance Smart Chain (BSC), which provided faster and more cost-effective transactions compared to Ethereum. During that time, Ethereum faced challenges with expensive and slow transactions due to the high demand for DeFi applications, with most projects relying on Ethereum.
PancakeSwap: Competitive Advantage
PancakeSwap introduced a lower swap fee of 0.2%, surpassing the industry standard of 0.3%. This competitive fee structure contributed to the rapid growth of PancakeSwap in terms of trading volume and total value locked (TVL). By February 2021, PancakeSwap emerged as a leading decentralized exchange, competing with Uniswap, a forerunner in automated market making (AMM) on Ethereum.
