Introduction to MediBloc (MED)

MediBloc is a healthcare-focused data management platform powered by blockchain technology. Its main purpose is to track and record all medical-related activities, including doctor visits, in a secure and consolidated manner.

By centralizing a patient's medical history into a single, concise format, MediBloc improves patient care by enabling faster and more reliable access to important information.

Established in 2017 by Allen Wookyun Kho and Eunsol Lee, MediBloc aims to create a decentralized healthcare ecosystem that benefits patients, healthcare providers, and medical researchers.

The Problem MediBloc Solves

In the medical industry, patient data is often scattered across different healthcare providers and organizations, both locally and internationally. Whenever a patient visits a new doctor or hospital, only a fraction of their medical history is accessible. Moreover, healthcare devices and gadgets that collect and analyze data also store fragments of medical information in their own systems.

This fragmented distribution of data across various platforms and locations poses a challenge for healthcare providers to access a patient's complete medical record, thereby hindering accurate diagnoses and the delivery of optimal treatment.

Recognizing this issue, MediBloc offers a data integration system that captures and updates every piece of a patient's medical information in real-time. This ensures that the full medical history can be accessed at any time.

The Structure of MediBloc

MediBloc is a decentralized application (dApp) built on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The platform comprises three layers: Core, Service, and Application, each storing information related to personal details, medical data, and MED account balances for users, providers, and researchers.

• MediBloc Core: This layer provides additional capacity to prevent data loss in healthcare due to limited blockchain storage.
• MediBloc Service: Utilizing Smart Contract technology, this layer connects with both the Core and Application layers to facilitate data import/export.
• MediBloc Application: Through various applications, such as mobile apps, this layer enables users to access and manage information.

The platform incorporates the Medi Point (MP) system, a points-based mechanism that measures user engagement. Users can acquire high MP by purchasing with MED tokens or contributing to the data network. After collecting MP and completing a three-month waiting period, users can convert their MP into MED. Contrary to MED tokens, MP is exclusively used during the verification process and remains within the platform.

• The MarkIt project, a joint study by MediBloc and Massachusetts General Hospital, was introduced.
