US Department of Justice seeks crypto lawyer to stop money laundering
According to a vacancy posted on June 21, the Department of Justice is looking for a lawyer specializing in digital assets to join its crime department.
The new employee will act as a “subject expert for digital currencies and blockchain technology for the Crime Division”, in particular for the Digital Currency Initiative.
DCI itself dates back to July 2018 when it released a report on the Cyber Digital Task Force. The new post comes as the recent ransomware attacks have caught the public’s attention. The DOJ is responsible for recovering the large amount of bitcoins that hackers received by freezing the capital pipeline infrastructure.
Coupled with the massive funds flowing into blockchain analytics platforms, this new position is evidence that crypto asset recovery has become a national priority.
The DOJ pays the new crypto expert GS 15 between $ 144,128.00 and $ 172,500.00. The application deadline for the current position is July 19th.
Last year, the DOJ confiscated more than $ 1 billion in Bitcoin stolen from the operators of the now-defunct Dark Market of the Silk Road.
