The coalition includes p0xeidon laboratories, Nym Technologies, Secret Network from SCRT Labs, Orchid, Railgun, Status, and the Oasis Foundation’s Oasis Network. Guy Zyskind, CEO of SCRT Labs said:

“Privacy is an essential component of any system, online or offline. It protects our right to consent and to express our freedoms safely. Secret Network has always been at the forefront of developing privacy technologies for Web3, and we are proud to support UPA from its earliest stages as we work together to build a better foundation for the future.”

The alliance also announced the establishment of the UPA Legal Defense Fund, which it claims will help it achieve its core goal of defending the ability to explore, design, and utilize full-stack privacy solutions. The UPA said in its statement:

“This move comes amidst a rising tide of censorship, suppression, and even criminalization of privacy technologies.”

The Universal Privacy Alliance was announced at a side event on October 11 during the Ethereum Foundation’s Devcon conference in Bogota, Colombia. Former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden delivered remarks via video conference during the opening, which took place at the ZK House hackerspace.
