A number of problems for the Chivo Bitcoin wallet in El Salvador | Sept 11
El Salvador’s exclusive Chivo Bitcoin wallet was officially launched earlier this week. But users almost struggle with a lot of unnecessary bugs in the application interface.
The Chivo Bitcoin wallet in El Salvador keeps crashing.
While most of the bugs reported by users were minor bugs sending payments through Lightning, some people said they discovered a severe privacy flaw that was accidentally exposed in their code.
The lightning invoice created by Chivo contains the full legal name of the invoice issuer. This seems to me to be a privacy issue that should be addressed. pic.twitter.com/3z39s7NoCO

“Invoices created by Chivo all have the full name of the invoice issuer. This seems to me to be a private matter that needs to be addressed. “
Matt Ahlborg, Head of Research at BitRefill, pointed out that the Flash invoices created by Chivo include the creator’s full name. This poses a severe threat to the security of other personal data stored in the application. Many wallet users on Twitter have warned of this information.
After receiving the message, this privacy issue appears to have been resolved in less than 24 hours. According to Ahlborg, after accessing the application’s core code, he found that the problem no longer occurred, and the issue was resolved.
For invoices sent over the Lightning network, the Chivo app now shows the time of the transaction and a message saying, “Thank you, Matt Ahlborg.” Dozens of other Twitter users have confirmed this.
Ahlborg believes this is a way for the wallet development team to identify the problem and show that it will be resolved quickly. And while many believe this shows El Salvador’s commitment to providing the best payments infrastructure, the country’s people see a severe obstacle to using chivo. According to a report by Local10, Chivo’s servers had been down since the wallet was launched, as over a million people tried to download the app.
El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele raised the issue on Twitter and urged people to “keep calm” as the country releases the app in installments to avoid overloading its servers. Many people have also struggled to spend their $ 30 government bonus, while hundreds have reported problems with Chivo ATMs trying to convert dollars to BTC.
