Optimism announces upgrade Ethereum that enables one-click rollup deployment
September 20, 2021 - Around 2 mins mins to read
According to a post Blogged on September 25th, Optimism, supported by the Ethereum Foundation, is developing a Layer 2 rollup network that expects native Ethereum protocols to be launched on its network with a single click by the end of October.
“Any tool that can run on Ethereum can work with optimism. Anyone who wrote code for Geth can now deploy without changes – even for advanced features like tracing and throttle. “
The post claims that Optimism reworked the code to further expand Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility to achieve “EVM parity” by reducing the protocol to a light and efficient form.
To achieve their minimalist philosophy, Optimism’s custom compiler, along with more than “25,000 lines” of other code, was removed as part of the upgrade.
While the team says it has achieved full EVM parity with the Geth Ethereum client, it is now hoping to facilitate compatibility with alternative node implementations like OpenEthereum and Erigon with a “under 1,000” limit of code.
Optimism adds that there will be no changes to the current security model after the rollout.
This move comes as capital migrates from the Ethereum mainnet to EVM-compatible chains and layer scaling solutions that minimize the high fees associated with transactions on the Ethereum base layer.
According to Dune Analytics, the competing rollup Arbitrum currently has the largest Ethereum bridge after Total Value Locked (TVL) at $ 2.62 billion, even though it started about three weeks ago.
Next up is the Polygon ERC-20 Bridge at nearly $ 2.35 billion, the Avalanche Bridge at $ 1.86 billion, and the Fantom Anyswap Bridge at $ 476 million.
