Six Notable Questions For Olga Kuppevskaya From MyEtherWallet
6 questions for Olga Kuppevskaya from MyEtherWallet
We’re asking blockchain and cryptocurrency dumpers to tell us what they think of the industry … and we’re throwing out some random zingers to keep them on the ground!
This week we direct our 6 questions to Olga Kuppevskaya, Vice President Research and Development at MyEtherWallet.
Olga is Vice President Research and Development at MyEtherWallet. She has a strong passion for learning which led her to blockchain technology and which led her to complete her Masters in Computer Science with an emphasis on researching scalable solutions. In her role at MyEtherWallet, she oversees the research, development and production of software products from Ethereum Blockchain (EthVM) data tools to wallet management.
1 – What kind of consolidation do you expect in the crypto industry in 2021?
In terms of price, ether (ETH) will of course fly to the moon. We have seen the staking increase interest in the chain and drive the price higher compared to 2017. If the Ethereum Foundation keeps its promise to merge into the mainnet and beacon chains by the end of 2021, the value of ETH is guaranteed to be even higher.
In addition, we will see greater consolidation of cross-chain functionality and decentralized financial bridging. After the past DeFi boom years, more and more users are interested in participating in various DeFi projects. It’s the next step for projects to create maximum value for their users and capture even higher market share.
2- The Five Best Crypto Twitter Feeds You Can’t Do Without And Why?
I have Twitter controls. However, I do not have a friendly relationship with Crypto Twitter. I usually spend a few minutes a week to see if there is anything useful. Most of the time, I just check our corporate partners or other large DeFi projects for interesting news or educational content. I am often overwhelmed by the amount of speculation and misinformation on other channels and the level of manipulation in the feeds.
We have all seen recent examples of activity on Twitter where a large investor posted speculation or threats regarding his investments. Then, right after that, we see people aggressively buying or selling. As a result, we get significant price changes. Aside from the fact that market manipulation is illegal in other industries – and it doesn’t make sense that a single tweet can significantly affect the crypto market and cause chaos in the community – it also offers an opinion on ethical standards in the crypto twitter community.
Instead, I get most of my messages from multiple dedicated crypto media platforms like Cointelegraph, CoinDesk etc and random crypto podcasts where the content is of higher quality – and I don’t have to include information in micro-blocks out of context.
3 – What’s more silly: $ 500,000 bitcoin or $ 0 bitcoin? Why?
I have a feeling that a bitcoin (BTC) for $ 0 is way sillier than $ 500,000. At the end of the day, Bitcoin’s main purpose is to transfer value; Although it is decentralized, it still has some similarities with centralized digital systems. Traditionally, in financial systems, you have had a middleman to help you store, manage, and secure your assets, much like a bank would. And as with any business, the middleman has expenses so you end up paying some fees for using your assets.
With blockchain technology, you can do all of this yourself; However, there are still material costs. Like any blockchain, Bitcoin is powered by nodes that are connected through the network. Bitcoin nodes do the computing to verify transactions and make the chain history accessible to other node peers. Nevertheless, every colleague must be encouraged to perform Proof of work to cover equipment costs, electricity costs, etc. Even if Bitcoin starts being introduced Proof of commitment As with Ethereum, there are still costs to be covered, such as ongoing node maintenance.
4th – Which two superpowers would you most like to have and how would you combine them for better or for worse?
My first skill is definitely to clone myself while preserving the clone’s memories of our reunion. I have the feeling that the day doesn’t have enough hours to do everything I want or even need. For example, there is a lot of innovation in the industry around us and I just don’t have enough time to read up on all the new concepts. Instead, I just have to choose certain things.
The second is flying – it is very tempting to get anywhere without conditions. By combining these strengths, I have the unique opportunity to offer free multi-haul air taxi services to those in need as an alternative to regional airlines and passenger fees. I have to do the math to be able to show the film on the plane, but hey, the idea is there!
5 – What talent do you lack and wish you had it? How would you use it if you had it?
I definitely lacked good public speaking skills. English is not my first language and, like most people, I am very nervous. When I often have to give lectures at university, I sometimes lose focus in the middle of a sentence and forget a few words in the middle when I say them out loud. Even though I haven’t been under extreme stress in a long time, I still feel like I lack the qualities to speak in front of a crowd that I’ve just met.
I am so happy that I now work with great team members who respect and encourage one another. I’ve been through my share of sexism and discrimination, however, and I know others in the crypto and STEM industries who are going through it right now. When I’m a great speaker, I want to influence and motivate people to talk about what they’re going through, raise gender bias, and take action. Adding to the existing dialogue will help raise awareness and empower more women and surveillance cultures to get into and stay in the industry.
6th – List your favorite sports teams and select the most memorable moments as you watch them.
I grew up in Russia and of course we always watch hockey there. My friends are long-time fans of SKA Saint Petersburg and we often go to the games because hockey tickets are much cheaper there. One of the most memorable moments was seeing them reach the KHL Conference Finals for the first time and play their last game against HC Dynamo Moscow. I remember the last 30 seconds and how intense it was.
SKA lost and had to score twice to win. They dragged the goalkeeper off the ice for an extra skater and concentrated the rest of the game around the dynamo net. Again and again the SKA skaters hit the net with all their skills. The Dynamo goalkeeper kept making incredible saves and in between you could feel the tension between the players and the stadium. SKA lost – the Dynamo goalkeeper proved unbeatable – but it was a great hockey game.
A wish to the blockchain community:
In any case, don’t be afraid to be a little crazy. Even if your idea may seem bogus, it probably still isn’t; You can be the first to bring it to life! Educate yourself, connect with people in the industry and maybe find someone who shares your passion and helps you make it happen.
