Simon Bolivar International Airport aka Maiquetia plans to enable customers to purchase airline tickets using digital assets from Bitcoin and Dash. Local media have reported that Venezuela’s airport will enter the crypto race by allowing customers to pay for tickets and other airport services using Bitcoin, Dash and Petro, a digital currency that is digitally issued by the Venezuelan government. Freddy Borges, the airport’s director, noted that Sunacrip, the country’s watchdog, will coordinate the redevelopment:
“In cooperation with Sunacrip, we will activate a button for crypto payments in airport platforms and in commercial operations.”
Russian and European tourists visit some of Venezuela’s most popular hotspots, so Borges believes that after this initiative, tourists will be able to visit even more parts of the South American country and boost the economy. He believes this remedial action will raise Maiquetia Airport’s international standards:
“Just like Russian passengers going to Margarita, they will also travel to La Guaira via Conviasa.
The international airport is the largest airport in Venezuela and the main gateway to the country, is located northwest of the capital Caracas and handles both domestic and international flights.
The country started with the introduction of the cryptocurrency and President Maduro even launched the famous Petro cryptocurrency. The country’s financial struggles such as poverty and hyperinflation have fueled a growing love of cryptocurrency among locals, and it is no surprise that the country is one of the few to lead the way in adopting cryptocurrencies. Last year, Burger King Venezuela allowed Caracas customers to pay their bills with cryptocurrencies like Litecoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin, Binance, Dash, Tether etc, ETH, BNB etc deals all over Caracas, Maracaibo, Maracay and Barquiisimeto.
