Warner Bros., the American multinational media and entertainment conglomerate, has announced the release of non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles for the upcoming film “The Matrix Resurrections,” following the release of official Space Jam NFT collectibles. The Matrix NFT program will begin on November 30th, with Warner Bros. aiming to distribute 100,000 Matrix Resurrections NFTs.
Warner Bros. is currently immersed in the non-fungible token (NFT) industry, having launched the official Space Jam NFTs with the Miami-based firm Nifty’s, Inc. The NFTs were inspired by the recently released “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” which starred a cast of famous Looney Tunes characters as well as NBA superstar LeBron James.
Warner Bros. has joined a group of well-known entertainment companies, including Fox, Lionsgate, Dolphin, and ViacomCBS. WWE and UFC, two entertainment companies focused on specific sports such as professional wrestling and mixed martial arts, have also entered the NFT space.
Warner Bros. is now collaborating with Nifty’s to release NFTs for the upcoming film “The Matrix Resurrections,” which will be released on December 22. The official Matrix NFTs, according to statements sent to The Hollywood Reporter, will be avatars of people inside the Matrix.
The avatar NFTs will be available on November 30, but owners of the base avatars will be able to choose between a “blue pill” and a “red pill” on December 16. NFT avatar owners will remain in the Matrix if they take the “blue pill,” but if they take the “red pill,” they will transform.
According to the official statement, Nifty’s and Warner Bros. will continue to provide “frequent challenges” to the Matrix NFT community. “The Matrix Resurrections” will be set to release 18 years after the previous film, “The Matrix Revolutions.” Original cast such as Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss will appear in the film (Trinity).
