The company appointed Justin Evans, formerly the head of crypto investment banking at Goldman Sachs, as its chief financial officer. Additionally, Mike Wilcox, who previously served as CFO of Velocity Global and was a portfolio manager at Point72 Asset Management, has taken on the role of chief operating officer.

These strategic hires are part of Blockchain.com’s broader initiative to expand its workforce by 50%. The company’s IPO ambitions align with a shifting landscape in traditional finance, where major Wall Street banks are increasingly engaging with cryptocurrency firms.

The prospect of a more favourable regulatory environment under a new U.S. administration, particularly with crypto-friendly policies, could further boost IPO activity in the crypto sector.

Despite past challenges, including financial strains following the collapse of Three Arrows Capital, Blockchain.com exchange has worked to stabilize its operations.

Crypto Firms Push Toward IPOs Amid Regulatory Shifts

IPO (Initial Public Offering) is the first activity of issuing shares and listing them on the stock exchange of a company with the purpose of raising capital from investors to expand the scope of production and business activities and develop on a larger scale.

Blockchain.com exchange is not alone in its public market aspirations. Other major crypto firms, including USDC stablecoin issuer Circle Internet Financial and crypto exchange Kraken, have also been eyeing IPOs.

Meanwhile, firms such as custody provider BitGo, Gemini and exchange operator Bullish are among those expected to make moves toward public listings in the near future.

Evans brings extensive experience to his new role, having played a key part in Goldman Sachs’ crypto investment banking expansion and advising on major deals, including Coinbase’s direct listing and Circle’s planned IPO via a special purpose acquisition company. Before his tenure at Goldman Sachs, he led emerging fintech investment banking at Barclays.
