The city government has officially announced the installation of a “government-run cryptocurrency kiosk” at Williston Basin International Airport, which will allow passengers and non-tourists to buy and sell 40 types of digital currency. The list of supported coins includes Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB).

For this initiative, the city of Williston has teamed up with the cryptocurrency service Coin Cloud, which provides the city with digital currency machines (DCMs). According to the company, DCM is “more than just a bitcoin ATM” in that it enables users to buy and sell not just bitcoin but 40 other digital assets with cash. “Old Bitcoin ATMs can’t do any of that,” claims Coin Cloud.

CFO Hercules Cummings said it was an important step in normalizing the use of cryptocurrencies.

“The city recognizes that cryptocurrency in general is evolving and evolving and submitting itself to technology, proving itself, and we believe it will stay here.” Cummings said.

According to Cummings, the revenue will be shared between Coin Cloud and the City of Williston.

Chris McAample, CEO of Coin Cloud, said their goal is to reach more people with digital currency.

“We believe that digital currency is going mainstream, we are a big part of it, and we want to install access to these digital currencies everywhere and in smaller cities in remote areas of the United States like Williston.” said McAample.

Passengers who bought tickets as well as non-tourists can now buy and sell over 40 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Shiba Inu Coin, Cardano and Ethereum, with cash. In addition, DCM will also act as a crypto ATM to withdraw cash from digital wallets.

“This is an ambitious step to introduce and engage the public in cryptocurrencies and at the same time actively participate in building the digital ecosystem… Even if we are a small rural community, more, but we make a difference. This small step could pave the way for governments and other commercial organizations. “said the city’s chief financial officer, Hercules Cummings.

Williston plans to install Bitcoin ATMs in City Hall

Not a big city, but Williston is gaining a lot of attention in the crypto community and is expected to become a crypto hub in the US soon.

Hercules Cummings, chief financial officer for the city of Williston, said the effort could be “the first instance of a government-organized crypto airport and ATM” in the United States.

Now he also predicts the city’s crypto payment volume will increase, saying: “With the government now accepting cryptocurrencies for utility payments while also hosting crypto ATMs, the government is a major player in delivering the public and accelerating the adoption of cryptocurrencies.”

The next step for the City of Williston, the official said, is to put a crypto ATM in town hall when there is higher demand at the airport.

“As part of our roadmap, we will eventually move these payment corridors to permits, permits and other fees within the city.” he added.

While the City of Williston supports the adoption of cryptocurrencies, its administration does not act as a fund custodian or administrator of cryptocurrency transactions. The DCM operator Coin Cloud handles purchases and withdrawals.

“The primary goal of DCM is to stimulate public curiosity about the growing adoption and portfolio adoption of an asset class,” said Cummings.

“We firmly believe that simple but big steps like these will get there. We look forward to continuing to make a transformative impact and positioning ourselves as a key player in this technology initiative. ” he added.

The city of Williston partnered with major crypto payments company BitPay in May 2021 to accept cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin as payment for utility bills.

In addition to Bitcoin, citizens can now pay their electricity bills with Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ether, Wrapped Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin (LTC) and five USD-linked stablecoins such as the Gemini Dollar (GUSD), USD Coin (USDC.)) And Binance USD (BUSD) said Cummings.
