China’s e-CNY trial version is available on the IOS and Android app stores
The trial version of e-CNY, the mobile wallet for China’s digital yuan, has gone live in China’s iOS and Android app stores.
Individual users in China can now download it to try “opening and managing personal wallets” and “e-CNY exchange and circulation services,” according to a tweet from BlockBeats, a local news site. .
The e-CNY app is now available in the iOS and Android app stores.

The developer of the e-CNY app is listed as the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China – a branch of the Chinese central bank.
Not all Chinese can download and try the wallet, only 11 regions: Shenzhen, Suzhou, Xi’an, Chengdu, Shanghai, Hainan, Trường Sa, Xi’an, Qing Island, Dalian and the Winter Olympics area.
CBDC is a cryptocurrency issued and controlled by a country’s government. While many countries around the world were working on this technology, China was early to prepare it for public use.
The country’s central bank said in April 2020 that the digital yuan could be used at the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022. This claim has been criticized by US Senators.
