OpenSea suffered a front-end attack, 332 ETH flew away

The OpenSea NFT marketplace suffered a front-end hack and the miner collected 332 ETH ($800,000), as reported by data tracking and security firm PeckShield.

PeckShield revealed that the attacker received 10 ETH from the TornadoCash Ethereum mixer and then wrapped it in WETH to carry out the attack.

The NFT market is a reliable signal of ownership, but this trust can be undermined by vulnerability to attacks due to piracy concerns or delisting controversies.

The attackers took control of the Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Cool Cats NFT collections.

Twitter user TBaller.eth has to sell BAYC in the hack for 0.77 ETH, instead of the minimum price of 86 ETH.

In response OpenSea said via Twitter:

“Lists that were created quite a while ago are reappearing as items are moved back into users’ wallets. We cannot cancel these orders, so today we launched a new listing manager to fix the issue.”
