Meta unveils the world’s fastest Metaverse AI supercomputer
Meta, Facebook’s parent company, says its newly created AI “Research SuperCluster” (RSC) will “pave the way” for building Metaverse.
Social media giant said They believe RSC is already one of the fastest supercomputers in the world and will take the top spot when fully operational in mid-2022.
“Developing the next generation of advanced AI requires powerful new computers that can operate five times per second.
Ultimately, the work done with RSC will pave the way for the development of technologies for the next great computing platform, where AI-driven products and applications will play a key role.”
CEO Mark Zuckerberg added in a post January 25 on Facebook:
“The experiences we are building for Metaverse will require massive amounts of computation (math operations per second) and RSC will enable new AI models that can learn from trillions of examples and understand thousands of lines, hundreds of languages and more.”
“We hope RSC will help us build entirely new AI systems that can, for example, provide real-time language translations to multiple groups of people, each speaking a different language, so they can seamlessly collaborate on a research project or play an AR game together.” .”
Does not disclose where the computer is located or the costs involved in developing and building it.
Defi analyst Camilla Russo compared Meta’s new computer to the Ethereum network, seen by some in the industry as a global “supercomputer”:
“Meta build a private supercomputer to better monetize user data in its metaverse. Ethereum is building an open-world computer that allows users to control their data in the Metaverse. Dissimilarity.”
In December 2021, Raja Koduri, Intel’s vice president of graphics and accelerated computing systems, said that existing computing infrastructure would need thousands of upgrades to power it.
“You need access to petaflops in less than a millisecond and less than 10 milliseconds for real-time usage.”
Widely referred to as the next iteration of the internet, Metaverse refers to a virtual space where people can work, play and socialize – often using virtual reality (VR) technology and reality augmented economy (AR).
