After Jack Dorsey left, Twitter welcomed Ethereum
In September 2021, Twitter enabled Bitcoin as the first cryptocurrency payment option available through the tip feature. On Wednesday, the social media giant more a variety of new payment services into existing tipping options, including Ethereum.
Users wishing to receive ETH tips simply enable the platform’s restricted features and add an Ethereum address to the relevant section of their profile. However, attempting to add an ENS domain name instead of a purely alphanumeric address was unsuccessful, resulting in an error field indicating invalid punctuation.
When it comes to bitcoin, tips can be sent through the Lightning Network, which sends payments through the Strike app.
However, Twitter did not provide any further details on the ETH tip. Currently, the trick is only available for users on iOS and Android phones, and users keep 100% of the tips received.
The company states that tips can be used to “show support, appreciation, help, or reward anyone you want — from aspiring creators and journalists to Twitter Space organizers and more.” Other supported payment services include Cash App, GoFundMe, Patreon, Wealthsimple, and Venmo.
Twitter recently rolled out a feature that allows Twitter Blue users to upload their profile picture to NFT, but that’s for iOS only.
