The First BAYC Restaurant, Bored & Hungry, Has Officially Opened
The first BAYC Restaurant, Bored & Hungry, located in Long Beach, California, celebrated its grand opening on April 9. The “1,700-square-foot restaurant,” which was “created by Orange County-based food entrepreneur Andy Nguyen,” will be open “for 90 days as a pop-up, powered by Houston smashburger idea by Bun B, Trill Burgers, and SoCal vegan fast-food concept Beleaf Burgers.”
Armed with the Bored Ape Yacht Club intellectual property, Andy Nguyen transformed the space to show how the marketing potential of the BAYC and NFTs can translate into the real world with his venture.
“The goal is to give back to the growing Web 3.0 community and open the doors to those who want to learn more about this new Web 3/NFT world. Our job is to educate the public about this new future world. And show people that you can create a brand/business out of this IP. Taking away the stigma of, ‘It’s just a jpeg.’”
It is interesting to note that Bored & Hungry implements “Token Gating.” Utilizing software developed by Irvine-based Campus Metaverse, a QR code is used to scan customers’ MetaMask wallets for $APE, Bored Ape and Mutant Ape or Bored Ape Kennel Club NFTs. Ownership of the cryptocurrency or NFTs unlocks perks at the restaurant, including free combos and more.
