Manchester City FC partners with Animoca Brands Quidd to launch a new NFT collection
Manchester City Football Club is one of the most successful English Premier League (EPL) teams, presently sitting atop the standings with one game remaining. The club and Animoca Brands subsidiary Quidd are launching a new NFT line this week.
Manchester City FC is an outspoken supporter of Web3 and is especially active in the digital area, with intentions to expand into the metaverse. The famous club is managed by Pep Guardiola and plays at the 55,000-capacity Etihad Stadium.
Animoca Brands established a new partnership between its subsidiary Quidd and Manchester City FC on Friday. Taking to Twitter, Animoca Brands tweeted:
“The collaboration features four drops starting on May 20th and extending through the end of the season. Fans will discover not only the 3D player cards – a first in sports collecting – but also sets that highlight major moments in the club’s recent history, with archival details found when spinning the card around to its back.” – Quidd marketplace stated.
NFTs and football fans will discover not only 3D player cards but also unique card sets that mark moments in the club’s history. An extremely limited set of Signature Gold set cards will be limited to the season, according to Quidd.
Quidd is a subsidiary of the famous Animoca Brands. It is one of the top NFT marketplaces on the Wax Blockchain, and they have worked with familiar names like Disney and HBO. The latest NFT collaboration follows a partnership with Sony to take Premiership football to the metaverse.
Many of the top clubs in Europe have quickly entered the crypto and NFT space. FC Porto partnered with Binance to launch their fan token last year. Barcelona has revealed its crypto development plans with the addition of the Metaverse and NFT projects.
This week, Fan Tokens got a boost in response to news of BitPanda listing seven Socios Fan Tokens on Wednesday. Manchester City Fan Token (CITY) was one of the seven. The remaining six included Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Juventus Fan Token (JUV), Atletico De Madrid Fan Token (ATM), Santos FC Fan Token (SANTOS), FC Porto Fan Token (PORTO), and FC Barcelona Fan Token (BAR). It is not clear if this is relevant to any NFT collection distribution.
The Quidd Marketplace is already home to collections from over 325 different brands and 8 million NFT collectors worldwide. This collection will be the first to appear on Quidd from a Premier League club.
As more and more sports clubs experiment with NFT technology, teams will continue to look at how they interact with fans in innovative ways.
