Brave browser officially integrates with Solana blockchain
Brave browser announced on May 24 that it has officially added support for the Solana blockchain to extend Web3 access to its 15.5 million daily users.
Brave’s 1.39 desktop release now officially supports the Solana (SOL) blockchain as well as the platform’s SPL standard tokens. The event comes after Brave first shared its plans to cooperate with Solana in November 2021.
In the new Brave browser version, Brave Wallet can be used to buy, sell and hold SOL and SPL tokes through the Ramp decentralized payment platform. Ramp will allow users to buy cryptocurrencies directly from their Brave Wallet instead of having to buy on a centralized exchange like Coinbase or Binance and then transfer them to the wallet.
In addition, Brave browser is also expanding the utility of its reward token, the Basic Attention Token (BAT). Users can earn BAT by opting in to view ads in the browser. According to Brave, BAT has over 55 million monthly active users.
More specifically, one of Brave’s 2022 goals for driving BAT growth is to increase support for the BAT utility across the NFT range. Accordingly, the company has also announced the establishment of a partnership with Magic Eden, the leading NFT marketplace in the Solana ecosystem.
One of the major milestones in the event is providing BAT holders with the ability to purchase NFT on Magic Eden’s marketplace in the coming weeks. For future upgrade releases, users will also be able to use BAT to buy NFT on Magic Eden via Brave Wallet as well as other Solana wallets like Phantom.
Brave is currently focusing a lot on Solana, it can be said that this is the foundation blockchain of this browser. This will bring certain benefits if Solana continues to grow as well as the opposite risk when Solana starts to slow down.
A Brave competitor Opera has chosen a more diverse solution, extending support to nine different blockchain ecosystems: Solana (SOL), Polygon (MATIC), StarkEx, Ronin, Celo, Nervos, IXO, Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). And most recently in early May, Opera also integrated BNB Chain.
