RTFKT, Nike’s Web3 arm, now owns 10 domain names (ENS) with the purchase of “dotwoosh.eth”
RTFKT, the Web3 affiliate of Nike, now owns 10 Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domains after purchasing dotwoosh.eth for 19.72 ETH, about $35,000.
Nike’s RTFKT Buys Ethereum Domain Name “DotSwoosh”
This is Nike’s Web 3 affiliate. RTFKT is pronounced “artifact”. It uses the latest game engine, NFT, blockchain validation, and augmented reality, combined with manufacturing expertise to create a pair of sneakers and digital artifacts.
This Web3 affiliate of Nike bought the domain dotwoosh.eth on May 27 for 19.72 ETH or $35000.
Nike’s exact reason for Friday’s Dotwoosh purchase remains unclear. But as some people have pointed out on Twitter, Nike may have plans to use this domain to release ENS subdomains in the future. The owner of the main domain will control the ENS subdomain.
Graphic designer Carolyn Davidson created Nike’s iconic swoosh logo in 1971 and reportedly received just $35 for her work.
In addition to dotwoosh.eth, RTFKT also owns artifacts.eth, rtfkt.eth, skinvial.eth, drmos.eth, mintvial.eth, dreamos.eth, spacedrip.eth, dripcoin.eth, and m2tekno.eth.
The ENSs may be part of a larger strategy based on their existing holdings.
Regardless of their plans for dotwoosh.eth, Nike has a track record of buying and trading various related names and logos. Last year, it trademarked Nike, Nikeland, and “Just Do It” for various metaverse applications and the Nike swoosh and “Jumpman” logos.
Nike has also worked to remove any unofficially licensed Web3 content, suing StockX for illegally selling images of Nike sneakers as NFTs.
