Afreum: Ushering Africa into the Blockchain Age

Afreum aims to transform the entire African continent by establishing a blockchain ecosystem that caters specifically to the needs of Africans. Sahr Johnny, a London School of Economics graduate, founded Afreum, which was launched on October 5, 2021. The ecosystem is built on the Stellar blockchain and offers a range of essential applications, including payments, savings, loans, remittances, atomic swaps, staking, peer-to-peer transactions, and investments.

Central to the Afreum ecosystem is the AFREUM (AFR) main token, which powers the platform as a whole. Additionally, the ecosystem features the AFREUM X (AFRX) token, designed for incentives and governance. Furthermore, each African country has its own local token, with over 40 local tokens currently available, such as ANGN, AXOF, and AZAR. The aim is for these tokens and the Afreum ecosystem to provide an alternative for Africa's financially excluded and unbanked population, while also offering exciting decentralized finance (DeFi) opportunities for international users.

International users are encouraged to participate in the Afreum ecosystem by contributing liquidity through DeFi-like features, including savings and staking pools. African users, on the other hand, can benefit from Afreum's fast and cost-effective transactions for managing various financial aspects of their daily lives. Dedicated applications like Afreum Wallet, Afreum Save, Afreum Earn, and Afreum Cash enable these functionalities.
