The new tactics need a hands-on approach, often from a portfolio manager or other active participant, and several professionals have been named to the new team.

Over the last five years, Bitwise has concentrated on how to provide passive access to the opportunities developing in crypto, according to CEO Hunter Horsely.

“The addition of active strategies to our services is a huge step forward in our ability to do that. I’m proud to say we’ve assembled one of the most talented teams in the country to build out our new active strategies, leveraging the platform and experience we’ve developed at Bitwise,” he stated.

Bitwise will now include long bias strategies such as event-driven, directional, and liquid ventures, as well as market-neutral strategies including arbitrage, yield, and quant. The company will also provide specific scenario capabilities such as tokens, equity, credit, DAOs, and hedging.

The alternatives team will be led by Jeffrey Park. In February, he joined Bitwise from Corbin Capital. Vincent Molino, who joined Northern Trust in May, and Denny Peng, previously of hedge fund Millennium Management, are also team members.

In October, Bitwise created the Web3 exchange-traded fund (ETF), which incorporates exposure to five categories of Web3 firms.
