Compare the price movements of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) in cycles
In this article, Bitcoin Magazine analyzes the previous price movement cycles of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). The purpose is to determine if there is a significant difference in volatility between them.
While the 2017-2020 moves are relatively similar, ETH grew much faster in 2021.
2017-2020 cycle
The BTC price is shown by candles, while the ETH price is shown with an orange line.
From 2017 to 2020, the two assets show relatively similar movements.
Starting from an all-time high in early 2018, BTC corrected over a period of 363 days, losing 84% of its value. ETH, on the other hand, corrected for 336 days and lost 94% of its value. Hence, while the ETH correction is more obvious and moves in less time, there is no discernible difference between the two.
After that, BTC was up 330% in 191 days while ETH was up 290% in 197 days. This sets it apart somewhat from the steeper decline in ETH before this uptrend.
Ultimately, BTC fell 71.50% in 261 days, which bottomed out in March 2020, while ETH fell 66.50% in 259 days, with a similar rate of decline.

Based on the March 2020 low, BTC gained 1,520% in 398 days. While this is a massive gain, ETH has more than doubled in 430 days by 3,620%.
Additionally, the corrections have also seen a similar rate of decline, although the ETH correction was almost twice as fast.
