Matter Labs New Branding Announcement For zkSync 2.0 And Mainnet For Developers

Key Points:

  • As it enters its last stage of development before being available to consumers, Matter Labs is renaming zkSync 2.0, its highly publicized ZK roll-up platform.
  • Project creators who pre-registered for the platform known as “Era” will be allowed to launch their initial app deployments on the network.
  • General users won’t be able to access the Era chain, but app developers will be able to test their code ahead of a complete launch anytime soon.
The race to scale Ethereum layer 2 has just become more intense than ever. After a limited testing mainnet – Baby Alpha, recently zkSync has officially opened its doors to projects that want to test the mainnet of the zkEVM solution built by this organization.

The most recent zero knowledge (zk) roll-up technology from Matter Labs is now available for deployment on the Ethereum network for pre-registered projects.

Matter Labs renamed zkSync 1.0 as zkSync Lite and zkSync 2.0 as zkSync Era to distinguish the various iterations of their scaling solutions. The latter allows dapps compatible with the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM). On the official zkSync Twitter, the announcement of the new mainnet phase has also been announced by the project.

The biggest changes related to the zkEVM solution include:

  • Open mainnet for the project programming team.
  • Launching a new brand: changed the name from zkSync 2.0 to zkSync Era.
  • Open source deployment of the entire source code of the project

Project creators who pre-registered for the platform known as “Era” will be able to launch their first app deployments on the network on Thursday. General users won’t be able to access the Era chain, but app developers will be able to test their code ahead of a complete launch anytime soon.

This level, known as the Fair Onboarding Alpha Stage, will be the last before the Era chain is completely accessible to all projects on the Ethereum mainnet.

In addition, the project also announced a few notable milestones related to the testnet, such as 9 million transactions performed, 30,000 contracts deployed, and 497,000 active wallet addresses.

In the above tweet, zkSync also revealed changes in the new product development roadmap. Earlier in November, the layer 2 network implemented the Baby Alpha mainnet and tested the features to a limited extent.

Also this week, another organization also building a zkEVM solution, Polygon, announced its mainnet roadmap. These moves are heating up the zkEVM race that has already attracted a lot of attention in mid-2022.
