How to Purchase NFTs on Opensea.io? The Most Comprehensive Guide for Beginners.
OpenSea has been a vital part of the decentralised ecosystem because it was one of the first marketplaces for non-fungible tokens (NFTs). NFTs are proof-of-ownership tokens for digital assets such as artworks, in-game items, etc.
A marketplace where anyone can buy and sell NFTs is an excellent boon to the decentralised world. With new technology to buy and sell art, the artwork generally benefits from marketplaces like the OpenSea platform.
Step 1: Link your Metamask wallet to Opensea
Before buying your first dream NFT, you need to link your Metamask wallet to Opensea. If you have yet to create a MetaMask, you need to make yourself one today!
And then type in the URLÂ https://opensea.io/. There is a little wallet icon at the top right corner. Click on it and you will see the wallet options that you can choose (Metamask wallet, Coinbase wallet). However, in this guide, I recommend you pick the Metamask Wallet ( the red fox icon ). Metamask is popular and easy to use.
There, OpenSea will prompt you to sign in to your MetaMask Wallet. Signing just confirms you are allowing the Dapp to interact with your wallet. It means you give authorisation for Opensea to connect to your Metamask wallet.

Buy NFTs with Crypto Currency
OpenSea offers cross-blockchain support across Ethereum and Polygon. This guide briefly explains the differences between these various blockchains.
Buy NFTs with Etherium
Ethereum is a decentralized, open-source blockchain with smart contract functionality launched in 2015. Ether or ETH is the native cryptocurrency of the Ethereum blockchain. ETH is used to pay transaction fees (known as gas fees) on the Ethereum blockchain.
Make sure that you have enough Etherium for your NFT plus gas fees on your Metamask wallet. Gas fees is fluctuating between $40-$150 or even more depending on how busy the Etherium blockchain is. You also can check Etherium’s gas fees in real-time at https://crypto.com/defi/dashboard/gas-fees to reduce the extra payment.
Buy NFTs with Polygon
Polygon (previously known as the Matic Network) is a separate blockchain that provides scalable, secure and instant transactions with Ethereum currencies like ETH, USDC and DAI. Think of Polygon as a sibling to Ethereum, the currencies are similar, but the two blockchains have slight differences.
Beginning in July 2021, users can use Polygon to create, buy and sell NFTs without paying transaction fees, essentially creating a gas-free marketplace.
