Gnosis may need to remove NFT functionality in order to be approved by the Apple App Store, while other wallets also report issues after being listed on Apple. Apple spent a day unveiling new iPads and iPhones at its annual event, but behind the scenes there is a battle over what people can put on their devices.

Lukas Schor, head of product development at Gnosis Safe, says that the publication of his company’s ETH wallet is being blocked by Apple. To help users manage the safekeeping of their funds, they can also view other digital assets such as NFT. NFTs are mostly blockchain-based tokens on Ethereum that represent a certificate for a specific virtual or physical object and can be bought and sold or traded. Since NFTs are tokens, they are gradually being built into wallets so that people can see the collections and all of the art associated with the promotions.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to blame Apple and I still think this is only a human problem. So I’m excited to be working with them to improve the policy on wallets. It must be 100% clear what is allowed and what is not.

The integration of NFTs in Gnosis is causing Apple problems, which is why Apple has blocked the Gnosis ETH Wallet from its application. Schor even asked if the new version of the app could be used to store NFTs when he said they were already integrated in the previous app with the latest update that connects hardware wallets to Gnosis. Since the question was raised, Gnosis responded that users could save their own NFTs in the app. The Apple Store says it doesn’t allow:

“We have found that your app contains paid digital content, services or features, or is accessing them through other means than in-app purchases, which is incompatible with the App Store.”

In subsequent announcements trying to clean up the mess when the Apple App Store responded that Gnosis should remove the feature, as one App Store reviewer wrote:

“Apple does not allow apps, especially wallets, to display NFT if they were not acquired via an in-app purchase.”

Therefore, you can purchase NFT through an app on your phone, but you will not be able to store your purchased NFT anywhere else. Apple has yet to respond to a request for comment, but the claim haunts the tech company known for sometimes tightly controlling the platform in an attempt to stifle competition. A week ago, Apple lost a case at Epic Games in which a judge ruled that external payment methods cannot be blocked on devices. This isn’t the first problem crypto wallets have reported when dealing with Apple.
