After nine years in charge, Wojcicki left YouTube on February 16 and announced plans to launch a “new chapter” centered on her family, health, and independent work. She presided over the crucial introduction of the revenue-sharing model during her time in office, among other things.

She will continue to serve as an advisor to Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google.

Before taking over as CEO, Mohan was YouTube’s chief product officer, where he supervised the contentious removal of the video dislike button as well as the launch of YouTube Music and YouTube Shorts to compete with Tik Tok.

To the dismay of the NFT-hating community at the time, Mohan revealed his preliminary ideas for integrating a variety of new features into Web3 in February 2022, including content experiences based in the Metaverse and content tokenization using nonfungible tokens (NFTs).

NFTs, in particular, might offer new opportunities for creators to interact with their fans and create new sources of income, Mohan stressed. He gave instances of how creators may tokenize their works of art, photographs, videos, and experiences.

“Web3 also opens up new opportunities for creators. We believe new technologies like blockchain and NFTs can allow creators to build deeper relationships with their fans. Together, they’ll be able to collaborate on new projects and make money in ways not previously possible,” he wrote in a blog post on Feb. 10, 2022.

The Web 3-related plans were supposed to maybe launch last year, but they haven’t happened. But, given that Mohan is now the firm’s leader, they might be ready for another push soon.

A remarkably small amount of FUD from the fiery NFT skeptics on Twitter, who are normally eager to flame anything to do with rumors of mainstream connections to the tech, has followed the news of Mohan being the next CEO of YT.
