“Looking ahead to 2022, I’m looking forward to seeing new and unique crypto applications that can replace current business processes and that smart contracts can change the world,” said American investor Shark Tank in an interview with CNBC.
Smart contracts are digital agreements with no middlemen, permanently stored on the blockchain, which are essential for DeFi, Dapp, NFT and others.
This is not surprising as Cuban has repeatedly mentioned his belief in smart contracts. In the past it was even considered “Ethereum maxi” for smart contract capabilities.
“I prefer Ether over Bitcoin because I can see an unlimited number of uses that will change the business world and users forever,” Cubans tweeted on October 16, adding, “And to use them, you have to buy ETH . ”
Investor Shark Tank hopes to see more use cases for smart contracts in 2022. As an example, Cubans mentioned the potential to monetize carbon offsets with the help of blockchain.
In theory, carbon offsetting should help offset your carbon footprint by funding environmental projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, some experts have expressed deep skepticism about carborne offsets in terms of their effectiveness and reliability.
Critics of the cryptocurrency also cite possible negative effects on the environment.
However, Cubaner sees the potential for verified carbon offsetting and monetization using blockchain applications and tokens, he said. “I’ve talked to all of my companies that could generate carbon offsets and discussed whether they could start monetizing them.”
Cuban is an avid investor in the field with a crypto portfolio that includes multiple cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and investments in multiple blockchain companies.
