NFT Market News: Week of February 14th to February 20th 2022

While excitement isn’t as great as it was last month, the NFT market continues to dominate across brands, music and entertainment, and many other verticals.

And within the last week’s NFT market news headlines, as aggregated by Bitcoinist, there’s still plenty of activity to watch out for.

NFT Market News: Snoop Dogg Turns Death Row Records into ‘NFT Labels’

Hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg has become a passionate NFT and crypto advocate in recent years, and with Snoop’s acquisition of Death Row Records, he’s now looking to use the label as a vehicle to focus on the focus on metaverse.

During an appearance at the clubhouse this week, Snoop said:

“Death Row will be an NFT label. We will introduce artists through the Metaverse or through whole other music chains. Just as we revolutionized the industry when we were the first independent company to become a Prime Expert, I want to be the first Expert in the metaverse. So, death row will be in NFT land.”

Snoop will be releasing a new NFT avatar next week. Check out our full report for more details on Death Row and Snoop’s update on the NFT.

NFT Market News: The New NYSE NFT Market

The New York Stock Exchange probably doesn’t mind if a lot of people think about the NFT. The NYSE, which operates the world’s largest market, has historically attracted NFTs and is now growing, according to reports this week.

The NYSE has filed new patents signaling that the exchange may be building a full-fledged NFT marketplace. Details are limited, but the move appears to be an extension of last year’s NFT series, which the exchange released to celebrate six major public listings.

The Ethereum-based World of Women is an NFT project aimed at raising awareness of gender diversity in the crypto space — and it’s currently at the heart of Reese Witherspoon’s latest content endeavors.

NFT Market News: UK Revenue Commissioners collect nearly $2 million in NFT

Three NFTs were seized by UK tax authorities this week in connection with an investigation by HMRC into alleged tax fraud. This is one of the first times NFT has been seized by a government authority and HMRC claim it is the first UK authority to do so. Three people are said to have been arrested on suspicion of trying to defraud the government of almost $2 million. These individuals are accused of operating a series of fake identities, armed with prepaid phones and VPNs to disguise their identities and reclaim VAT they owed from the act.

NFT Market News: Europe’s largest asset manager invests in NFT

Europe’s largest wealth manager, Amundi, is based in France and has over $2 trillion in assets under management. New reports this week say Amundi is considering entering the NFT market; Speaking to Financial News, Vincent Mortier, Amundi’s Chief Investment Officer, stated that “we cannot rule out the possibility of NFTs also becoming investable assets.” Of course, NFT has use cases beyond JPEG, so it will be interesting to see Amundi’s approach to market penetration if they actually decide to do it.

NFT Market News: Reese Witherspoon Gets Promotion, Planning TV Shows, Movies All About NFT

Reese Witherspoon is no stranger to NFTs and now she’s taking things to the next level. Reports published this week have revealed that Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine will be developing a feature film and TV series based on the NFT project World of Women. The project was one of Witherspoon’s first forays into NFT and has since evolved into a ‘blue chip’ NFT.

In recent months, a new brand – from apparel brands to fast-food conglomerates and everything in between – seems to have entered the NFT space. This week, Victoria’s Secret is the latest brand to enter the space.

The company has reportedly filed up to 4 patents this week, and trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis has stated on Twitter that the brand is working towards “virtual bras, shoes and accessories” to be called NFT.
