Who Is Dorian Nakamoto?

Dorian Nakamoto, a physicist of Japanese-American descent, has been identified in certain publications as the potential individual associated with the name “Satoshi Nakamoto” in relation to bitcoin. This idea originated from an article written by Leah McGrath Goodman for Newsweek. The article suggests that Dorian Nakamoto is the true identity behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. Goodman supports this claim by highlighting the fact that Dorian shares the same birth name as Satoshi Nakamoto.

According to his daughter, Nakamoto experienced job termination on two occasions during the 1990s, which led him to adopt libertarian views. As a result, he encouraged his daughter to establish her own company that would be free from government control.

Dorian Nakamoto was considered the most likely candidate for being the anonymous founder of Bitcoin due to his failure to deny involvement when questioned about it. Instead, he responded by stating that he is no longer involved and cannot discuss it, as it has been turned over to other people who are now in charge. He emphasized that he no longer has any connection to it.

However, Dorian later denied all claims, asserting that he had never heard of Bitcoin prior to the interview and that his response to Goodman’s question was misinterpreted.

Interestingly, Dorian later revealed that he had misunderstood Goodman’s question, initially thinking it was related to his military service and later assuming it referred to his work at Citibank. On the same day, the real Satoshi made his first comment in five years on his P2P Foundation account, stating that he is not Dorian Nakamoto.

Adding to the intrigue surrounding Satoshi, Dorian Nakamoto lived just a few blocks away from Hal Finney, another prominent candidate for being Satoshi, in Temple City, CA.
