Originally launched by researcher Ayrey, the bot took center stage in July 2024 when it received a sizeable Bitcoin donation courtesy of venture capitalist and a16z co-founder Marc Andreessen.

What once started out as an X bot that made fun of a fictional religion called the “Goatse Gospel” has since grown into a project of contemplations about meme coins, digital culture, and the intricacies of AI-driven interactions within the crypto world.

The founder of the Truth Terminal, describes the work as a “refined version” of Meta’s Llama 3.1 model with the intent of testing the boundaries and the effects of using AI in meme content generation. In fact, Ayrey had envisioned the bot to originally “crack” other LLMs to tell terrible jokes.

Although the Truth Terminal works as an independent AI, it does not trade or build any cryptocurrency itself. The owner of the related wallet is Ayrey, who says the project is an art, not a commercial exercise.
