OpenSea Email Service Provider Leaked Millions of Addresses

The information contained within the leak of data includes key personalities in the crypto ecosystem, such as CZ of Binance, and has raised concerns about increased phishing activities.

The first incident, reported on June 29, 2022, involved one of the contractors of the OpenSea email service provider Customer.io, illicitly accessing and selling email addresses from current and former users to a third party.

At the time, OpenSea warned its customers to be vigilant against potential scams. However, recent developments show that the leaked database has spread everywhere, leading to the full disclosure of sensitive information.

Security Experts Urge Strong Password Practices Following Leak

The OpenSea email service provider breach was later confirmed by OpenSea upon SlowMist’s Chief Information Security Officer disclosure, who goes online as @im23pds. The risk of this is a bit heavy since such bad actors possess so much private information that it may place millions of users in danger in the face of phishing attacks and other forms of cyber-attacks.

To mitigate the risks, SlowMist called on the affected individuals to adopt robust cybersecurity measures, including using strong, unique passwords and keeping them in a password manager.
