Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX, a well-known cryptocurrency exchange, has agreed to new bail conditions with U.S. prosecutors.
According to court documents filed on Monday, his lawyers have confirmed the agreement.
The agreement includes several new conditions submitted for approval to District Judge Lewis Kaplan of the Southern District of New York. Among the new conditions, Bankman-Fried will be provided with a new phone that won’t have internet access and will be limited to text messages and voice calls. He will also be provided with a new laptop with limited functionality that will only be allowed access to approved websites. The move comes after suspicions that Bankman-Fried had attempted to contact witnesses while on bail.
Bankman-Fried’s parents, in whose home he will be residing, have agreed to additional conditions that will prevent their son from using their devices or bringing in unpermitted devices into the home. This agreement strongly indicates their commitment to ensuring that their son adheres to the rules and regulations laid out by the court.
Despite the new bail conditions, Bankman-Fried has pleaded not guilty to wire fraud and money laundering charges, for which he will stand trial in October. Following his arrest in December, he was released on bail on a $250 million bond, co-signed by his parents, who put up their home in Palo Alto, California as collateral.
